Introducing Granny who loves baking
I met this sweet old lady in a Flea Market greeting everyone with a pleasant smile. I am happy to share her Story with you guys. Her name is “Zae” and she’s about 70 years who loves baking food. I personally have had most of her confectionery and indeed I tell you, they are Deelicious! I am so overwhelmed that at the age of 70 her love for baking food isn’t lost and she prepares, packs & sells them all by herself without any help. Continue reading her story…
How did it all start?
I was Interested in baking when I was a Teenager. We regularly got a Magazine called “Woman and Home” in those days and as I go through them, I collect all the recipes of baking and desserts. We had a Box Oven back in those days and I baked cakes once in a month. But, it was only after I was married I got more involved in baking for my family – Buns, Cakes – Sponge Cake, Chocolate Cake and Brownies. They didn’t come out really well like they are now. I have improved on all those baking procedures and what I am today is presenting them by – icing Chocolates and Sprinkles on cakes and cupcakes, Puff Pastry with Chocolate or Cheese in it, Italian Herb Buns, etc. As time went on I have made changes in preparing them, I am learning and baking new items. Today, I’m happy with what I am doing. It’s a hobby that I’m loving to do everyday. I pass my time doing it and I enjoy that!
What’s your Strength & Support?
I have 2 children – a son and a daughter, they support me in doing my hobby. My interest in Baking Food is my Strength. And I love baking dishes all by myself, I don’t need any support for what I do. I love to work independently. And I do it when there’s no one around to disturb me while I’m baking.

What’s your Daily Routine?
I cook in the morning and then I do some household work. Later I catch up with my friends over phone and chatter. I have a chat with them almost everyday and that’s how I keep them in contact. I take a nap in the noon hours and in the evening I cook dinner for my family.
Saturday’s are a busy day for me. I bake cakes, brownies, biscuits, cupcakes, buns, puff pastries, etc for the stall. At night I pack them nice and neat after everything is done. And I don’t talk to people on Saturdays.
I use natural ingredients in my food while making them to keep it simple as a home baked food. I take orders from people whom I know and they are limited which I can bake alone. I don’t have any helper and I love baking all by myself. I’m not fancy of owning a store selling cakes and buns but it’s a satisfaction of interest I have on baking.
How did you come up putting up a stall?
It was through one of my friend who is a Trustee of Lamakaan. She asked me to put a stall saying “it’s a nice place and since, you bake nice and sweet, you should try it”. It’s been almost 2 years now that I’m running the stall every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If it was not her suggestion I would have not come here.

How did you stay Inspired and Motivated in your hobby?
Since I was interested in Baking food from my teenage and now that I have time, I gave a thought “Let me Indulge in my Hobby” and that’s how I stayed inspired and motivated.
What have you learnt while doing your Hobby?
I learnt that people have different tastes in food – few would love sweet puff pastries and others would love to have salted puff pastries, egg-less and egg cakes. I keep in mind what they would love to have and bake accordingly. I also learnt to improve my skills on baking in reading many recipes, watching videos on YouTube and shows on T.V.
